How To Draw A Lion Realistic
I of my accented favourite animals to draw is a Lion. I dearest creating the long flowing manes and the bright, trigger-happy eyes. But lions can be a very difficult and challenging subject to draw.
Which is why I decided to share with you my approach for how to depict a realistic lion
We are going to cover the basic step past step approach that I follow when drawing a realistic lion. And then in I volition be sharing my process for turning that basic drawing into a finished work of art.
Nosotros will get-go with a simple tutorial showing how to draw a lion'southward caput. Nosotros'll begin with the basic shapes so move on to more detailed piece of work.
For beginners just starting out I recommend starting with a 2H a pencil and newspaper then moving on to darker B-8B pencils in the later drawing stages.
I likewise recommend only pressing very lightly with your pencil at the start so that you tin easily erase the construction lines when you have finished.
How to Draw a Realistic Lion
- Sketch in the basic shapes of the lions caput.
- Draw in the facial features
- Add the optics but above the mid point of the head.
- Make the nose slightly smaller than the gap between the eyes
- Add together details such as pupils and hanging corners of the oral cavity.
- Refine the drawing to make information technology flow
- Draw the fur as clumps not individual hairs
- Draw the clumps in slightly dissimilar sizes, shapes and directions
Sketch in the bones shapes
When I draw a lion I always starting time my simple drawings with a cantankerous. This lets me sympathize the perspective and place the eye line and mid-point of the lion's head. This is done past drawing a vertical line in the middle of your page then a horizontal line effectually 1 3rd from the top of the first line.
Draw a circle around the point where the two lines cantankerous. This is going to become your king of beasts's face. You lot don't want the circumvolve 2 big. Roughly half the length of the horizontal line.
Next the ears. Draw two smaller circles on top of the kickoff. These should exist slightly smaller than one of the quarters of the main circle. It doesn't thing if these aren't perfectly in line. Your drawing will actually expect amend if it isn't completely symmetrical.
Adjacent depict 2 even smaller circles roughly half the size of the ears towards the bottom of the confront. They should slightly overlap with the bottom of the face up circumvolve.
They should be roughly 2 thirds the length of each half of the confront. This is going to grade the muzzle or role of the mouth.
Side by side we desire to add together the bottom jaw. To do this add a half circle below the circles you have but draw. This should be slightly smaller than the length of the ii circles added together.
Once y'all have done this connect the bottom half circle to the big circumvolve by drawing two diagonal lines.
Next very lightly draw ii diagonal lines from the centre bespeak to the edges of the 2 circles that yous drew for the muzzle to form a triangle shape. This will form the lion'south snout.
Sketch in the mane by drawing a curved line connecting the tops of the ears and another larger curved line that connects the lesser of the ears going all the way to the bottom of your vertical line. The further away from the bottom jaw you go the longer your mane will be.
Now you take the basic construction of a lion'southward caput.
Drawing in the Facial Features
In one case we have fatigued the bones features in the next set of steps y'all may wish to erase some of the basic lines yous take created in the previous steps to end your drawing looking as well messy.
The eyes
Start with the eyes. On the horizontal line marker where the mid-bespeak of each half of the face is. Slightly in a higher place the horizontal line depict a small-scale circle on each side of the face up. This will exist your eyeball.
Effectually your eyeball you should draw this ellipses shape like to the image shown hither. Make sure the edge closest to the middle of the face up is the longest.
A tip for getting the right proportions for the optics is that the whole eye should be roughly 1 fifth the length of the face. The gap betwixt the optics and both gaps on either side of the eyes should all be roughly that same size too.
The nose
You already accept a bully starting point for the nose.
Draw a squashed heart shape from the betoken where the two cage circles meet at the bottom to the superlative of each circle. And so give your squashed middle some arms that accomplish roughly to where each circle crosses the big face circle.
On the outside of these arms depict two minor outwardly curving lines like this.
From the within corner of each middle draw 2 slightly outwardly curving lines to the edge of the muzzle circles.
Next draw two smaller curved lines around the inside edges of the eyes equally seen in the picture.
From the lesser of these lines describe two larger curved lines that meet the pocket-sized lines at the side of the nose.
The residual of the face and mane
Side by side add some cheekbones going from the outside corner of the eyes to roughly the border of the olfactory organ merely make certain yous don't cross that big outward curving line you accept but drawn.
Finally refine the shape of the ears, head and rima oris slightly. This is to make the cartoon menstruum and appear more than natural. Copy the steps from the prototype below. You tin can then erase the structure lines until y'all are left with a basic cartoon of a king of beasts.
We however don't desire to be pressing very hard as we still need to add together more details to the cartoon.
Calculation the details
Again start with the optics. Add a smaller circle inside each centre for the pupil and an even smaller circumvolve inside that for the reflection. Make sure the reflection is on the same side for each center. So both on the correct or both on the left.
Split your eye in half to show the shaded area at the top of the eye.
In a higher place and below the centre you need to add curves that crude follow the same shape to show the upper and lower parts of the centre lids and socket.
The Nose
For the nose add the large Y shape with a line running through the eye forming the ridge in the heart of the olfactory organ.
The Ears
Next the ears need two smaller lines on the inside of each ear roughly following the shape of the curve.
The Mouth
Two smaller curved lines tin exist added to each corner of the mouth. This is to give the appearance of the rima oris hanging downward slightly.
Finishing the drawing
This is where y'all can press downward a trivial harder with your pencil or switch to a darker / softer one. You can add shading to the eyes, nose and mouth earlier adding the fur.
Add fur to the chin and the height of the head. These can be done with very few lines describe your fur as clumps rather than trying to draw individual hairs.
To make it more interesting and real make sure that each clump is a slightly unlike size, shape and curves in a slightly dissimilar management. Variation is what makes things look natural.
The Mane of the king of beasts
For the mane use longer lines. This is where the longest hairs are. Once again draw the hairs as clumps and once again vary the size and management of each clump slightly.
The hair around the lesser of the mane will exist slightly longer than the hair almost the top so make sure to draw longer lines for the lesser section of the mane.
Adding the Basic Whiskers to your lion
On the muzzle draw a few lines of dots for the whiskers to grow out of then draw the whiskers coming out of these.
Once again make sure to slightly alter the length and bend of each of the whiskers to make it look more than interesting and real.
Congratulations you lot accept completed your basic how to draw a king of beasts simply this is not the end of the guide! Remember the more yous practice the improve you will get.
Shortly you volition be able to draw the lion very quickly without the need for the structure lines. Yous can progress to the side by side steps much more speedily
I left out the actual whiskers on the image above as I volition exist drawing the in with an eraser afterward so that they are white.
How to Draw a panthera leo and make it Realistic
Now we want to make the lion look live. To exercise this we demand to add shading and fur texture.
To starting time with I identify the darker regions of the face and shade using a dark pencil or charcoal. I am nevertheless not pressing very hard as I desire to exist able to alloy these marks subsequently.
Next I cover the remaining areas with more pencil or charcoal and alloy them together lightly with a tissue or blending stump.
I use even darker pencils or more charcoal depending on the medium. Use these to build up more darker areas effectually the cheekbones, eyes and mane to plant form.
I like to as well tone my background hither using the same technique other wise it looks like the panthera leo head is just floating in white infinite.
The Fur of a lion
For the fur texture I use a putty eraser to remove the charcoal or pencil from the surface of the newspaper. Yous can watch how I practice that in this youtube video. You can practise this with a regular eraser too.
I repeat the procedure for the remaining areas of the confront and mane. removing longer strands for the master and shorter strands for the pilus of the face.
I so work back over the peak with the night pencil to add together the final areas of shadow all over the face and mane.
The Real Whiskers
At present information technology'southward time for the real whisker. I use a pencil eraser or a sharp regular eraser to draw in the lines of the whiskers. This could also exist done with a white pen or paint if y'all wanted to.
I then like to brand the drawing more expressive using abstract shapes and marks. You can finish on the step in a higher place.
I accept included what the final drawing looked similar for you to see.
